Focus is a video based care planning API that records short videos of people who cannot easily communicate. Typically this includes people with acquired brain injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, dementia, autism, intellectual disability and a range of other conditions. These short videos can be easily archived and accessed to provide information about needs and preferences of each care recipient. Three years of testing in caring institutions revealed that this tool reduces challenging behaviours and falls, reduces staff handover times and makes staff training more efficient. It supports the transfer of information between staff, improves communication with families and enhances the quality of life for care recipients.
